Poco dopo Intel ha annunciato le CPU Core 2 Quad da montare sempre su socket LGA775. In questi 2 ultimi anni i chipset 965/975, P35/X38 e gli ultimi P45/X48 sono stati tutti prodotti di successo. Nonostante ciò, Intel non si è dimostrata soddisfatta, e nel Novembre 2008 ha lanciato una nuova architettura basata su socket LGA1366 e CPU Core i7.
