Mod’n Roll 2012: The Theory of Everything.

I guess it's about time for another update.
I didn't get much done as most I need is going to be milled on the cnc, and we have had different setups sitting in it the last couple of weeks. Hope to get some done during the week/next weekend.
But I do have a small update though. I made the PSU cover:

Still needs a bit of tweaking, but all in all I think it's going to be good!

C ya soon guys! :thumb:

SO am I!

I just need to have the machine for a couple of days straight, but vacation is coming up, so I hope to finish that in a week or 2!

Sorry for leaving you waiting guys. It's been hectic at work and I've been pondering a lot about the mod. But now I'm ready to go again!

On with the show, pictures is what you wan't!

I milled a hole in the side for the 120mm radgrill:

This is (almost/kind of) where the dvd-drive is going to be placed.
I need to mill the in the top and make some more stuff for it.
Right now I've got a couple of my ph.d. homies in Electrical Engineering working on a controller board that will be used for the drive, and the motor.

More on that when it's done. Should be within a week or 2!

Since all the plugs are hidden underneath the PSU cover plate, I need outlets for usb/audio/RJ45 and the GFX. These will be placed next to the 120 radgrill.
Setup:

Milled:

I encountered a problem with the radgrill, since It's pretty far to the side AND the bottom of the side plate. I had to dremel that away:

Done:

Then I had to round the corners of the radgrill. 4mm radius, and the gauge to use as a template for filing down the corners:

Done:

It looks crooked, but it's just because it's not glued in place so it fell back.
Then I received the last of the cables needed. 4 usb's and 1 rj45 that are made for panel mount. The GFX cable is actually a splitter, so I need to make something to mount it. Not many options out there for a 5 inch cable for DVI

That's it for now. I hope to get led's in the 120 radgrill today, and finish the design of the cable outlet plate. I'll post pics later if I get it done!

Until then my fellow modders! :thumb:

well , waiting for next pics

I designed the plate for the In / out connections. It's gonna look something like this:

Then on to cutting and soldering the led's, and then mount them:

And it works:

Ran to the bathroom as that's the only place I have that's dark during the day!
This is on a drained 9v battery, so I think with 12v it's going to light up the entire country of Denmark!

And in daylight:

There we go. I might go to the workshop tomorrow again, but not sure.
C ya soon anyways!

Very good work, man!

Thanks a lot guys!

I was going to do a piece today, but unfortunately I got called up to do a co-worker a favor so I didn't have time to finish it. Just pulled if from the cnc, so it still needs some filing and some holes. I'll get it done friday!

But I decided to put it in here, just as a kind of a teaser:

C ya friday with yet an update!

Ty!

I had to cut it short today. But I have the next 10 days off, so some progress is to be expected!

But it is indeed a GFX backplate:

I don't know exactly what went wrong in measuring, but I had to take a bit off of the corner of the GFX pcb. No problems though, it's just PCB!

Sorry for the short update, I'll be back during the weekend with more!

I also bought some fittings. I was supposed to redo some myself, but they were on sale and for less than $1 a piece for these - Looking that good, there was no way I neede to do that!

I should be going to the workshop tomorrow, so hopefully yet an update shall be here by then!

I'm back!

Went to the workshop to find out my access card does not work on holidays!

Luckily it's brand new as the old one broke, and I therefore had a guest pass that I have not yet returned.

First look of the controller for the dvd-drive:

Can't wait to see this in action with components on, and software written for it!

Finally I got the I/O plate done!

Usb/Gfx/Lan mounted - The holes for the audio were a bit too small so I'll get those done tomorrow or saturday:

Put in the case. This is just for testing, I'll set it with rivets when I know it's ready!

That's it for now. I hope to have more for you tomorrow!

What to do on friday morning of easter vacation?
I was planning to go to the workshop, but decided to stay home and get started on sleeving the PSU!
Going with white, blue and red.
I used my trusted homemade tool for this. Two little pieces of metal cut to size.
Halfway done with atx cable, the PCI-e is quite anoying since it's a 2x6 pin splitter, so I'm not done with that!

5 wires later I snapped both the small bits off of the tools

But that wasn't gonna stop me so I got it done. This included a 5 minute search on the floor for one of the little tool-bits... 0,3mmx0,8mmx5mm in length is not easy to spot even though I vacuumed the floor the day before yesterday!

I might get the cable done today! If not, I'll hope to get it done tomorrow after some hours at the workshop.
