did you stress the cpu with prime , lynx ?

        try with

        molti x20

        vcore 1.3

My goal is to lower vcore not to lower the overclock :)

          Usually I7 950 needs 1.3-1.35vcore to hit 4,2ghz

With 1.45vcore I should be able to OC 4.5-4.8ghz

            Hello.

4,2 GHz is a quite high frequency for a daily use. Try to decrease a little bit the frequency in order to reach the stability with 1,3V or 1,35V of vcore

            Which is you CPU cooler?

It seems to me that is an estimation a little bit too optimistic! The i7 950 is not a Sandy Bridge !

In any case each CPU has a different behavior, and the optimal settings should be found manually.

                        4 GHz is generally a good trade-off.

Ok I'm back already, this cpu does not like 20x multi XD

                          20x multi=crash at 1.45v

21x multi=crash at 1.3875 with longer time before crash.

                              I can get 3.6ghz with about 1.25-1.275

                              3.8ghz 1.3-1.325

anything beyond 3.8ghz wants alot of voltage.

upping IOH to 1.3 and pcie to 103 I was able to stress test 4.2ghz for a short period of time, which is a bit of an improvement. with vcore 1.3875

Yep, odd multipliers, if I remember well, are preferred by Nehalem CPUs.

Had you fixed the PCIe frequency before? This is very important when raising the bclk!

                                  hi man

, i ll write to you in english because of you're in need to understand correctly.

If you can, send me an image of your bios settings, for example a direct photo. Otherwise report them all in your first page.

Have you got something called qpi/dram or just LLC ?

I highly suggest you to set a voltage lower, or equal, than 1.35/1.38V.

                                  Some tips:

                                  use multi 21x

set a dram value lower than 1600, with relaxed timings and 2T command rate

You should turn off a lot of other settings but you should show me the situation

Achieving such high frequency on a nehalem processor it requires a motherboard with digital phases, lots of ventilation in the NB/SB and VRM's, a very good CPU (yours could have some issues, past 4.1GHz) and a good PSU. What have you got regarding the last one ?

                                  Thanks in advance

                                    Hey,

my qpi/dram is called CPU VTT which i currently have set at 1.3, the safe voltage for i7 950 CPU VTT is 1.45 before it actually needs a specific cooler for it.

I'm personally not having any trouble at getting stable 4.2ghz or even 4.8ghz, its just the fact that it wants alot more vcore than it actually should. and it would be nice to bring it down or get more speed from the current setting.

I will list to you all of my voltage possibilities

                                        QPI PLL 1.35

                                        IOH/ICH IO voltage- auto

CPU PLL vcore- stock is 1,8 tried bringing up to 1.9 and 2.0 didnt see a diffrence, at 1.6 i saw a slight change but it might have just been a flook

                                        ICH vcore- auto

                                        DIM DQ VREF- auto

i've changed every setting possible now, so I'm starting to think this chip just won't accept anything under 1.45vcore.

which would suck because that means my highest possible OC is a 4,4ghz before voltages start to become dangerous.

IOH/ICH IO voltage- auto -> should be low, if i remember correctly something like 1.18V. I should check the old bios

I'll check the blue ones tomorrow ;)

I think that you could have got a bad CPU, but I need to check better your mobo
