I tempi non sono maturi per l'arrivo di Skype nel mondo mobile. Softpedia riporta le dicharazioni della compagnia che sviluppa il noto software VoIP, la quale sostiene che le tariffe della banda larga mobile sono ancora troppo alte. Ciò rende poco appetibile e poco conveniente l'uso del VoIP sui cellulari.
L'unica eccezione è rappresentata da H3G che in Inghilterra offre un piano da 5 sterline al mese per l'accesso ad internet senza limiti di traffico o tempo. Questo permette illimitate chiamate VoIP, download di podcast, illimitata possibilità di chattare con Windows Live Messenger. Questo è l'unico caso in cui risulta per l'utente conveniente utilizzare il VoIP per le sue chiamate mobile.
Per quanto riguarda l'Italia vale lo stesso discorso, anche se qualche cosa si sta muovendo per quanto riguarda l'uso di software per chattare con dispositivi mobile, come abbiamo riportato in questa news.
ma nn sembra del tutto esatta questa news, anche perchè verificando in rete, sembra esserci un client skype (iSkoot) certificato che già funziona sugli smartphone nokia :
