  1. Cos'è lo step (core stepping o revision)? Lo step o la revisone è il processo produttivo con cui sono state realizzate le cpu. Uno step produttivo più recente permette di diminuire i consumi grazie a VID più bassi e aumentare le capacità di overclock. Come faccio a capire qual'è lo step della mia cpu? Su cpu-z nella prima pagina Nelcampo revision c'è scritto lo step della vostra cpu. Come faccio a capire lo step di una cpu che ancora non ho acuistato? Si può risalire allo step della cpu tramite le ultime 5 lettere del "Product code" che si trova scritto su quell'etichetta che sta appiccicata sulle scatole dei processori boxed. E il batch (qualcuno lo chiama anche sigla) cos'è? E' una sigla che sta ad indicare il lotto di produzione della cpu lo stabilimento e la settimana di produzione. Qualcuno sfrutta questa sigla per orientarsi sulle capacità di overclock di una cpu, vedendo i risultati di cpu fortunati con sigla simile. Ci sarebbe da discutere un anno su questa cosa e non è ora il mio scopo. In generale, comunque, non è detto che due cpu con sigla simile o uguale abbiano prestazioni simili. Nelle seguenti tabelle sono raccolti tutti gli step produttivi di ciascun processore Intel Core, con la rispettiva parte del product code. Alcuni processori hanno diversi step e quindi proprio in quei casi occorre fare attenzione per scegliere il migliore tra i due. Iniziamo con la tabella degli Intel Core 2 Intel Pentium Dual Core Intel core i3 Con i processori della serie iX è stata aggiunta la voce #Core che ci indica il numero di core fisici e il numero di core logici tra parentesi. Qualora il processore fosse dotato di tecnologia HT troveremo un numero di core logici doppio rispetto al numero di core fisici. Ricordiamo che la tecnologia HT non porta a un raddoppio effettivo delle capacità di calcolo della cpu ma il guadagno è stimabile intorno a circa il 30% e caria a seconda delle applicazioni. Le cpu AMD Athlon 64 basate sulla nuova piattaforma Socket AM2 non fanno in tempo neppure ad essere rese disponibili sul mercato, che già si inizia a discutere di quale ne sarà il successore....viste le prestazioni.... ;D Il nome che emerge in questi giorni è quello di Revision G, nome logico considerando che quella adottata da AMD per le cpu Socket AM2 è la revision F. Le cpu Revision G altro non saranno che quelle Athlon Socket AM2 costruite utilizzando il processo produttivo a 65 nanometri. AMD dovrebbe avviare la produzione in volumi di queste cpu, nella versione X2, a partire dalla fine dell'anno. Ottimisticamente è presumibile che i primi sample verranno proposti sul mercato entro la fine dell'anno, con versioni di processore Athlon 64 X2 dal modello 4.200+ a quello 4.800+. Queste nuove cpu non introdurranno novità dal punto di vista architetturale, fatta eccezione per il nuovo processo produttivo. E' possibile che AMD possa abbinare a queste cpu anche alcune modifiche al memory controller, in termini di migliore compatibilità con le memorie DDR2 oppure di supporto, ufficiale oppure ufficioso, a standard memoria superiori a quello DDR2-800 attualmente certificato per le piattaforme Socket AM2....speriamo bene,non sarebbe male.. Molte di queste possibili novità nel memory controller dipenderanno dalla situazione del mercato verso la fine dell'anno: resta da capire in quale direzione si spingeranno sia i produttori di moduli memoria che il JEDEC. Quest'ultimo non sembra intenzionato a proporre nuovi standard DDR2 superiori a quello DDR2-800, aspettando la diffusione della tecnologia DDR3 per promuovere velocità superiori.... :tickedoff: Le memorie DDR3, tuttavia, sono ancora ben lontane dall'essere una realtà nel mercato delle schede madri. La diffusione di un nuovo standard richiede sempre un intervallo di tempo lungo, e il fatto che alcuni produttori abbiano a disposizione dei sample implica solo che la direzione sia stata tracciata, non quanto rapidamente una nuova tecnologia possa diventare disponibile in volumi per tutti i segmenti di mercato. Del resto, è solo ora che la memoria DDR2 è diventata realmente interessante per tutte le tipologie di sistemi, grazie al progressivo allineamento di prezzo rispetto a quello della memoria DDR. Il passaggio seguente dovrebbe essere quello del core K8L, che rappresenta il punto di svolta dell'architettura K8 per AMD;...vedi: http://www.amdclockers.it/forum/index.php?topic=808.0, alla quale trovate i dettagli. Al momento attuale è possibile presumere che questa serie di processori otterrà livelli prestazionali ben superiori a quelli delle soluzioni Athlon 64 attualmente disponibili, anche se non è prevedibile che tali cpu possano essere immesse sul mercato. Il K8L continuerà ad utilizzare lo stesso Socket AM2 introdotto da AMD......? La sensazione è che AMD continuerà ad utilizzare questo Socket per un periodo di tempo, del resto la storia recente di questo produttore conferma questo, ed è presumibile che in previsione delle innovazioni delle architetture K8L AMD abbia già previsto gli opportuni adattamenti di Socket, così da rendere quello AM2 adatto anche a queste cpu....cose che personalmente a me non piacciono,ma che sono certamente ottime per chi vuole risparmiare. Comunque si aspettano notizie ufficiali dalla stessa AMD. Il quadro attuale, alla fine del mese di Maggio 2006, vede le cpu Athlon 64 X2 come ancora quelle che rappresentano il miglior bilanciamento tra caratteristiche tecniche e prestazionali, nel segmento delle soluzioni desktop. Intel prepara il debutto delle cpu Conroe, e tra alcune settimane sarà possibile iniziare a vederne i primi risultati prestazionali: in quel momento sarà possibile capire in che misura Intel abbia ricuperato il divario, oppure distanziato nettamente AMD. I prossimi 2 mesi saranno sicuramente carichi di novità per quanto riguarda il mercato dei processori in generale, e quello delle soluzioni desktop in particolare. Ciao
